Le Petit Sec lies just off Ile de Groix, near Lorient in southern Finistere, in the Atlantic waters where Brittany meets the Bay of Biscay approach. Like much of the island's coastline, it sits among rocky reefs and small offshore points typical of this part of Brittany, reached by boat from harbours on the mainland or from Port Tudy on the island itself. Divers have also reported common dolphins passing through the site.
