Manta Reef

Manta Reef is a reef dive off Tofo in Mozambique, about 15 km and 25 to 35 minutes by boat. Depth runs from 19 to 26 metres and it is rated advanced. It is the fishiest, easiest and shallowest of Tofo's deep sites, and it is not necessarily the best site for mantas.

A flat reef plateau is bordered by walls of 5 to 10 metres to the north and south, and the site is large enough for more than one visit. The cleaning stations sit on the top edge of the reef, so good buoyancy matters to avoid disturbing animals being cleaned. The entry is negative.

Large motionless schools of bigeyes, snapper and goatfish gather on the north wall, with batfish and bigeye trevally above. Caves and pinnacles shelter potato groupers, loggerhead turtles and giant morays, and there are morays, groupers and nudibranchs on the reef.
