Nubble Light is a shore-accessible scuba diving site located at Cape Neddick, Sohier Park, in York County, Maine, centred on the waters surrounding an 18th-century lighthouse built on a small islet a few hundred metres from the shoreline. The islet's position shelters the channel between it and the coast, creating a calm, protected environment for diving.
The terrain is rocky, with algal beds covering the seafloor in the shallower sections. The site is genuinely shallow throughout: the maximum depth reaches 15.9 metres (about 52 feet), and visibility is at its best in the 10–15 metre (30–50 foot) range, becoming noticeably more opaque beyond that depth.
Marine life becomes more varied as depth increases from the algal-covered shallows. Divers can expect to find crabs, lobsters, yellow skates, torpedo rays, and schools of pollock.
The best conditions occur in summer, when water temperatures run 10–15.5°C (50–60°F); a wetsuit of at least 7 mm is strongly advised. Diving at or near slack tide is recommended to avoid the stronger tidal currents that can develop in Maine coastal waters. The site suits beginner-level divers, and visiting on a weekday rather than a weekend helps avoid crowds.
