Permit Paradise is a reef dive site situated on the edge of a coral reef, along the same reef trend as the nearby Hollywood site a short distance to the north. A horseshoe-shaped curve cuts into the coral at the very edge of the reef, giving the site its distinctive character. The name comes from the permit, a large member of the pompano family highly regarded by game fishermen, which regularly visits this area.
The reef terrain consists of abundant clusters of large coral stacks visible from the surface after entry, most rising 10–15 ft (3–4.5 m) of relief above a white sandy bottom. Depths across the site range from 35 to 60 ft (roughly 11 to 18 m), with the maximum bottom depth at 60 ft (18.3 m). Coral types and patterns are similar to those found at the Hollywood site along the same reef.
The permit itself is the signature species here, appearing as a regular visitor. The broader reef supports the range of fish life typical of this coral environment.
Permit Paradise is suited to intermediate-level divers.
