Shark Point is a natural reef dive site in Punta Cana, sitting at 24 to 30 metres (80 to 100 ft), where sharks move through on their normal daily patterns rather than as part of any baited or staged encounter.
The reef structure runs through the 24–30 m range, and bottom times at this depth typically run 25 to 35 minutes before nitrogen loading or air consumption becomes the limiting factor. At these depths the water filters to blues and greens, so photographers without strobes should expect distinctly monochrome results without post-processing.
Shark Point is the site's main draw for the sharks themselves: nurse sharks, blacktip sharks, and Caribbean reef sharks pass through in the course of their regular activity. The encounters are unscripted and depend on the animals' own movements.
The site requires an Advanced Open Water certification or a minimum of 20 logged dives. The depth itself sets the experience threshold, and the shark encounters benefit from divers who can hold steady buoyancy and behave calmly. At this depth, wetsuit compression reduces buoyancy noticeably, making precise BCD management important throughout the dive.
