The Tapilon Wreck is a World War 2 Japanese cargo ship that was torpedoed and now lies on the bottom in several pieces, making it one of the wreck diving sites around Malapascua Island in the Philippines. The site sits at 28 metres depth and is reached by a 30-minute boat ride from Malapascua.
The wreck rests broken apart on the bottom, its scattered sections having become heavily colonised over the decades, earning it a reputation as a coral kingdom. Water temperature runs between 28 and 30°C, and visibility is generally good at this site.
The broken structure attracts a strong macro community, with frogfish, mantis shrimps, and nudibranchs among the highlights regularly found among the wreck's sections. The site is well suited to Nitrox, which significantly extends bottom time compared with air.
The Tapilon Wreck is listed as an intermediate-level dive, and Nitrox is recommended to make the most of bottom time at depth on the wreck.
