The Atoll is a huge rock that stands upright on the bottom at Puerto Galera in the Philippines, rising from 33 metres to 20 metres. It has an overhang on one side and lots of small crevices on the deep side, and is covered in soft coral, fans and sponges, so it is very colourful. Depths run from 18 to 32 metres and the dive is rated advanced.
Frogfish, flatworms, nudibranchs and lionfish are common in the overhang, so bring a light because of the depth. Emperor angelfish, sweetlips and scorpionfish are common, with larger groupers, and the rock face is spotted with moray eels and clouds of small reef fish.
The dive has to be done on a flood tide, when there is less current. It is best done on nitrox, and with some planning you can extend it by swimming over towards Shark Cave or Kilima Steps into shallower water.
