The Muglins is an oval rock about 250 m long, just north-east of Dalkey Island, and the most dived site in Dublin Bay. It drops to about 25 m, and is dived between 10 and 25 m.
Currents here are strong, so it is best dived at slack water. Tidal rips form at the ends of the island, the south end on the flood and the north end on the ebb. If the current is not too strong, diving just outside slack gives a nice drift. If it picks up, stay close to the rocks and shallow.
The rock is full of nooks and crannies holding sponges, anemones, crabs and lobsters by the dozen, conger eels, gunnels, dogfish, every kind of wrasse, bib, pollack and ling, and plenty of seals. At the south end, deeper down, there are anchors and other remains of shipwrecks.
