Amberjack Reef is a coral reef dive site within the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, Bahamas, known primarily as one of the most reliable shark diving destinations in the Exumas. The reef stretches roughly 50 feet (15 m) in length and reaches a maximum depth of 60 feet (18 m). It was historically a shark feeding site; feeding has since stopped at the park's request, but years of conditioning keep Caribbean reef sharks returning in numbers, allowing natural encounters without artificial attraction. The site sits within a no-take marine reserve, and all diving must comply with park regulations.
The terrain consists of coral heads with sandy patches between them, and the surrounding sand flats host colonies of garden eels. Up to ten Caribbean reef sharks, ranging from four to six feet in length, commonly circle divers throughout a dive. Nurse sharks rest on the sandy areas between coral heads. The park's long-standing protection has allowed black grouper, yellowmouth grouper, and yellowfin grouper to reach impressive sizes — some exceeding 50 pounds — and they frequently approach divers closely. Pirate blennies peer from holes in the reef structure.
Visibility at Amberjack Reef is frequently exceptional, often exceeding 130 feet (40 m). The calm, protected waters of the Land and Sea Park contribute to generally settled conditions.
The site is reached by liveaboard vessel cruising the Exumas or by chartered dive boat from Staniel Cay. Open Water certification meets the depth requirement, though comfort with shark encounters is important; the site is rated intermediate.
