Amphitheatre

Amphitheatre is a wall dive at Northwest Point, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos. It takes its name from a large recess in the wall, covered in bright sponges and hung with whip corals.

There is large pillar coral under the boat. From the mooring pin, swim directly west to the wall and descend to about 80 ft (24 m). The wall drops vertically to the amphitheatre, which is undercut 10 to 15 ft (3 to 5 m) to a sandy bottom in 85 ft (26 m). It is about 30 ft (9 m) wide and full of sea whips. A large elephant ear sponge with black coral sits along the top lip of the undercut, with some rare orange rope sponges at about 90 ft (27 m). In front is a buttress with plate corals.

Horse-eye jacks circle just outside the recess, and neck crabs hide among the gorgonian fans. Swimming north or south from the amphitheatre brings you to a lot of black coral. Look closely at its branches for seahorses.
