Barracuda Reef

Barracuda Reef is a fairly shallow coral reef located off Broward County, Florida, marked by a system of 29 mooring buoys. Depths range from 20 to 30 feet (roughly 6 to 9 metres), and the reef is noted for offering a dive experience similar to diving on the reefs of the Florida Keys.

The site is particularly well suited to fish-watching, with great ledges and overhangs providing habitat for a wide variety of reef fish and invertebrates. Species seen here include great barracuda, sea turtles, southern stingrays, nurse sharks, snapper, grunts, angelfish, sergeant majors, parrotfish, big-eye jacks, bumphead parrotfish, and spiny lobster.

Entry is by boat, with 29 mooring buoys available to tie off. Current at the site can be strong, so divers should plan accordingly, though the shallow depth and overall conditions make Barracuda Reef suitable for beginners. Visibility is generally good.
