Batu Mandi, which translates as Shower Rock, lies on the last corner of the North Sulawesi mainland before Lembeh becomes visible. The beach is deserted, with forest reaching the shoreline.
The dive follows a mini wall that drops to around 15 m and then turns into a white sandy slope with pinnacles rising from the seabed. Currents here can be strong and unpredictable, and the site is rated advanced.
It is all about critter hunting. The main quest is the giant frogfish, which turns up in several colour variations, and flatworms and nudibranchs are relatively common sightings alongside the usual reef fish.
