Devil's Den is a prehistoric underground freshwater spring located in Florida, accessible by descending a short staircase into a cavern where sunlight streams through an opening in the roof above. The site formed naturally and is noted for the fossils preserved within it, as well as the rising steam and echoing atmosphere that the enclosed cavern creates.
The spring reaches a maximum depth of 15.3 m (50 feet), with cave-style terrain featuring swim-throughs and air pockets throughout the cavern. The bottom type is cave, and the site is rated suitable for beginners, though divers must be comfortable in enclosed spaces, as the cavernous areas can feel confined.
The water holds a constant 22°C (72°F) year-round, and visibility is excellent. A 3 mm wetsuit is recommended. Primary and backup dive lights are required. Because of the enclosed cave environment, the site carries serious hazards including restricted spaces and conditions associated with cave diving; a minimum age of 12 applies.
Large catfish are resident at the site and are known to approach divers; fish food can be brought in. Entry is from shore via the staircase, and diving is available year-round.
