Dolphin Den is a dive site of coral canyons on the northern side of Roatan. It is less crowded than many sites, and its canyons are similar to those of Mary's Place. The canyon runs from 4.6 to 12.2 metres (15 to 40 feet) deep, is filled with tunnels that join one canyon to the next, and has a sandy base. Soft and hard coral grow throughout.
The site takes its name from a dolphin skull lying in one of the tunnels, and the name dates from the 1980s, when divers found dolphin remains there. Divers who lose their way in the tunnels can look up at the ceilings, where openings let in sunlight, to find the way out.
Snapping shrimp, slipper lobsters and anemones live in the coral nooks, nurse sharks rest around the caves and overhangs, and green moray eels and channel clinging crabs are quite frequent. In summer the site is packed with silversides.
