The Duane is the wreck of the USCGC Duane, a 327 ft (100 m) Treasury-class Coast Guard cutter off Key Largo in the Florida Keys. She is a decorated WWII veteran, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and was sunk on purpose as an artificial reef.
She rests perfectly upright at about 120 ft (37 m). The crow's nest and radar tower start at 60 ft (18 m), the deck sits at 100 ft (30 m), and the seafloor is at 120 ft (37 m). Her sister ship, the Bibb, was sunk the next day half a mile away.
The Duane is ranked among the finest advanced wreck dives in the Keys, and the site can have a strong current. After decades underwater she has grown into a mature reef, with barracuda, snapper, goliath grouper and nurse sharks around her.
