The Heian Maru is the largest wreck in Truk Lagoon, a former submarine tender lying on its port side at depths of 12 to 34 metres (40 to 110 feet).
The deck is covered in soft corals and sponges, and the cranes and deck guns are still in place, encrusted with marine life. The cargo holds are filled with submarine parts, including torpedoes and periscopes. Divers with penetration training can also explore the engine room.
Schools of trevallies and lionfish live on the wreck, and the occasional reef shark passes.
