House Reef is a shallow, beginner dive off Pemba that starts on an open patch of sand at 5 metres. The sand flows into big coral bommies filled with tropical fish and nudibranchs.
There is no current and visibility is superb, so the site suits snorkellers and divers of every level, and it works well for night dives too. Large eye squid and octopus are worth looking out for among the bommies. Water temperatures run between 24 and 29°C, and the best months are July to October and January to February.
