La Bota is a shoal near Es Vedra, Ibiza, almost a mile north-west of the islet. Its name comes from its underwater profile, which looks like a boot. It is a technical-level boat dive on rock, with a maximum depth of about 70 m (230 ft).
The shoal does not break the surface, but its minimum depth is barely 50 cm and nothing marks it, no buoy and no lighthouse, so boats must approach with care. Currents here are strong, so check that conditions are favourable and judge the current before starting.
The route starts at the western side of the shoal, and anchoring at both bow and stern keeps the boat from swinging toward the shallows. The dive circles the highest part of the shoal, the leg of the boot, and the recommended direction is clockwise: west, north, east, south. The route is about 150 m long, takes around 45 minutes and has a planned maximum depth of 40 m (131 ft). The main rock formation has few holes.
The bottom drops to about 70 m, so set your depth limit by your qualification rather than by how far the bottom is. The route is rated of medium difficulty.
