North Horn is a reef dive site at Osprey Reef in the Coral Sea, recognised as one of Australia's most celebrated shark dive locations. The site reaches a maximum depth of 15 m and is built around reef terrain.
North Horn is known for its reliable shark encounters, with grey reef sharks, silvertip sharks, and oceanic reef sharks all recorded at the site. Other residents and regular visitors include barramundi cod, sweetlips, juvenile batfish, lionfish, glassfish, and mussels.
Conditions at North Horn are defined by tidal flow. A strong northerly current runs on the ebb tide, making timing critical — the site should be dived at slack water only, with the window of roughly 15 to 20 minutes before peak tide considered optimal. Visibility is great when conditions are right.
North Horn is suited to intermediate and above certified divers who are comfortable managing strong current. The key hazard is that strong northerly current on the ebb, and diving outside the slack-water window is not recommended.
