Shark Ridge is a sloping reef ridge on the eastern side of Apo Reef, in the Philippines, and is regarded as the most consistent site for shark sightings in the area. The ridge slopes down from around 15 metres to 30 metres, and its textured walls are lined with countless small caves, crevices, and overhangs. Sandy patches between 15 and 25 metres provide resting spots for whitetip reef sharks, while shallower sections are patrolled by blacktip reef sharks. The site is rated intermediate and is accessible by boat, with dive sites at Apo Reef reachable within 10 to 30 minutes from mooring areas.
Beyond sharks, the ridge sees regular appearances from eagle rays and Napoleon wrasse, and manta rays and scalloped hammerheads have also been recorded here. The caves and overhangs reward close inspection for nudibranchs as well as sleeping sharks. Schools of snapper, grouper, bumphead parrotfish, and large tuna can be encountered as the reef continues around towards the deeper northern walls.
Visibility is best on an incoming tide, which also tends to moderate the stronger currents that can run through the area. Water temperature sits between 26 and 30°C. Divers should be comfortable with current and have solid buoyancy control, making this a site suited to intermediate and above certification levels.
