Tachai Reef is a gentle slope on the east side of Tachai Island, about 25 km north of Bon Island in the Similan Islands. White sand is dotted with coral blocks, with a maximum depth of 30 m and an average of 15 m. The current is gentle and visibility runs from 15 to 40 m.
The site is nicknamed Leopard Reef for the many leopard sharks that live here. They sometimes come up so shallow that they can be seen from the boat. Approach slowly from an angle where the shark can see you, never from behind or from above.
Mantas, whitetip reef sharks, giant and bluefin trevally, barracuda, napoleon wrasse, fusiliers and batfish also turn up.
