About this site
The Aquarium is a wall dive off Long Caye on Lighthouse Reef, Belize. The wall on the northwest side of Long Caye starts in 15 to 20 ft (5 to 6 m) of water and drops almost sheer to a slight bump, beyond sport diving limits, before plunging again into the depths.
It is dived as a multilevel profile with a maximum of about 50 ft (15 m), and the water is crystal clear. Big coral heads are dominated by mountainous star coral, and orange elephant ear sponges grow out from the wall at 40 ft (12 m). Azure vase sponges and blue bell tunicates add colour, and decorator crabs and neck crabs cling to the sea fans.
Reef fish are plentiful, so it is a good place for underwater photography. Reef sharks, dolphins and turtles are among the larger animals seen.
