The Swiss Reef lies off Pemba Island in the Zanzibar Archipelago, separated from the Tanzanian mainland by the Pemba Channel, a deep water strait known for its steep drop-offs and strong currents. Reef sites around the island, including this one, are typically reached by boat from towns such as Mkoani or Wete on the western side. Divers here have reported green sea turtles along with Richardson's morays, and the reef also holds purple, strawberry, and tawny hermit crabs tucked among the coral and rubble.
