Wattabomi, also called Moray Eel City, is a sloping reef at Mnemba Atoll off Zanzibar. It is dived at 6 to 25 m and suits all levels, since the gentle slope lets each diver pick a depth. The reef starts at about 7 m and is a puzzle of coral blocks full of life, with big bommies scattered across a sandy bottom. Currents are mild, and strong ones turn it into a drift.
Lionfish, scorpionfish, several kinds of moray eel, leaf fish, nudibranchs and giant stonefish rest among the coral. Lettuce corals draw fusiliers and schooling snappers, with sweetlips and marbled groupers, crescent-tail bigeyes, octopus and frogfish. Thousands of garden eels poke from the shallow sand at the end of the dive. Bottlenose dolphins pass through all year, and the site is good for photography.
