The African Queen is a wreck dive site located in the Ocean City, New Jersey area, one of numerous artificial and natural wreck sites that make up the region's diving offerings. It sits among a wide spread of named and unnamed wrecks scattered throughout the area.
Diving the African Queen requires at minimum an Advanced Open Water certification, and the verified difficulty rating is advanced. Water temperatures range from 10–18°C (50–64°F), making a full 7 mm wetsuit or drysuit, hood, and cold-water gloves essential. Visibility is rated good, though conditions vary with the season, depth, and weather.
Access is by boat. Recommended equipment includes a wreck reel, flashlight and strobe, safety sausage, dive computer, and a knife, reflecting the overhead and potentially low-light environment typical of wreck diving in this region.
