About this site
Barracuda Lake is a freshwater lake surrounded by limestone cliffs and fed by hot springs, near Coron in the Philippines. It is known for its thermocline and halocline layers, and the dive is rated Advanced Open Water, with depths of 5 to 35 m and a bottom beyond 36 m.
The water temperature ranges from 27 to 40 C, and the change between the cold and hot layers is abrupt, at around 14 m, where the interface is sometimes visible. The limestone formations are dramatic. Despite the name, barracuda are rarely seen. Numerous shells cover the bottom, shrimps sit on the walls and a few rabbitfish live in the shallows.
