Cathedral Reef is a coral reef dive in Belize, divided into a shallow section and a deep section. It takes its name from the coral spires that rise from the bottom and look like cathedral towers.
Terrain. The dive starts at about 9 m and then drops away along a wall. Sand channels run between the towers of coral, and narrow passages and tunnels cut through the coral formations, which makes good subjects for photographs. Maximum depth is around 18 m.
Marine life. Lobsters, eagle rays and turtles are listed here, and turtles cross the reef fairly often.
Conditions and suitability. Current is light and the site is rated beginner, with the shallow part of the reef suiting divers of all levels.
