Chinchorrito

Chinchorrito is a reef dive at Mahahual in Mexico that feels a little like Banco Chinchorro, with similar scenery and plenty of life. The maximum depth is 24 metres, though you can stay as shallow as 18 metres and still enjoy it, and it suits advanced divers best. Depending on the current you can swim five minutes over sand to the Escalones reef.

Soft and hard corals thrive, including many fans and barrel sponges. They attract schools of blue wrasse, groupers and barracuda. Eagle rays, stingrays and spotted morays are frequent, along with all three turtles of the area, green, hawksbill and loggerhead.

The dive ends with a turn into the sand and a swim shallower, watching for large southern stingrays and small yellow rays as they pass looking for food.
