Dived here today? How were conditions vs. what we showed?
Five Fingers is a reef dive site in the Galápagos Islands, dived in the afternoon when strong currents are running. Because of those post-midday currents, divers must be comfortable with demanding current conditions, making this a site suited to experienced, advanced divers.
The reef reaches a maximum depth of 24 m and is notable for its benthic communities — bentonic organisms that are rare enough to draw the attention of marine biologists, who consider it one of the few places in the world where such assemblages can be observed while diving. Alongside these bottom-dwelling communities, pelagic species move through, including tunas and pompanos, and marbled rays are also encountered here.
Strong currents are the defining condition at Five Fingers and represent the primary hazard; dives here are scheduled around tidal timing, with the strongest flow arriving after midday. The site is reached by boat.
