Julie's Wall

Julie's Wall is a wall dive on the East End of Grand Cayman, off Old Man Bay. It is named after Julie, a local nurse who loved shore diving here on weekends, and it is the last of the northern dive sites before a government-protected no-dive zone begins. The mooring pin is at 15 m (50 ft) and the maximum depth is 30 m (100 ft).

The special feature is an overhanging wall that you can swim underneath, a rarity shared with only one other East End dive. The twilight under the overhang suits large, vibrant sponges that usually live much deeper, so the wall looks extraordinary at shallow depth. A mini wall sits close to the main wall, so one dive covers both the shadowy overhang and the bright, sunlit mini wall.

Look for porcupine pufferfish swimming just above the reef. They often allow a slow approach and can grow over two feet (60 cm) long.
