Lunas is a muck diving site ringing Romblon Island in the Philippines, reached by a boat ride of roughly 5–30 minutes from shore. The site sits on muddy sediment and soft substrate with a depth range of 5–18 m, making it accessible to Open Water certified divers including beginners. Excellent buoyancy control is important here, as fin kicks that disturb the bottom destroy visibility for photographers and other divers in the water.
The soft substrate and debris hold Romblon's highest critter density. Wunderpus (Wunderpus photogenicus), flamboyant cuttlefish (Metasepia pfefferi), and blue-ringed octopus (Hapalochlaena spp.) hide among rubble, while sawblade shrimp, bobbit worms, and various frogfish species reward patient, methodical searching. Night dives reveal different species that remain sheltered during the day. Local guides know current critter locations and can lead photographers directly to subjects.
Currents at Lunas are light, and the site is best dived under proper tidal conditions. Water temperature runs 26–30 °C year-round, with the recommended diving season running November through June. Visibility is generally great when the sediment is left undisturbed.
