Portomarie, also known as the Valley, is one of the most popular reef dive sites on Curaçao, notable for its excellent shore infrastructure and a distinctive double-reef layout.
The reef system features two parallel reefs; when visibility is good, the second reef is visible from the first. The top of the second reef lies at around 13 metres, and most fish activity is concentrated between 10 and 15 metres. A thick rope with a buoy attached runs through the centre of the reef and serves as an orientation guide for divers.
Marine life at Portomarie includes large schools of fish most commonly seen at 10 to 15 metres, with occasional eagle rays and turtles passing through. With some luck, divers may also encounter a frogfish.
Conditions are generally good, with light current and good visibility. The site suits beginner divers and is accessible as a shore dive with convenient facilities for preparing equipment on site.
