Maritime Reef is a wreck dive site in Rarotonga, built around the Maritime Reefer, a large fishing vessel that was deliberately sunk in 1981. Subsequent cyclones broke the wreck into two main sections, which now rest in around 26 m of water, with a maximum depth of 30 m.
The wreck sits in a rich reef area, and the two broken sections provide structure across the depth range of 24–30 m. The surrounding reef adds further terrain to explore during the dive.
The site has a resident giant moray and plenty of lionfish, along with the broader reef life typical of the area.
Maritime Reef is rated suitable for Advanced Open Water divers and above, reflecting the depth and wreck environment involved.
