Oban is a wreck diving destination on the west coast of Scotland, used as a base for exploring wrecks in the surrounding waters and the Sound of Mull. It is accessed by boat or hardboat and serves as an alternative departure point to Tobermory for reaching the main wreck sites in the Sound of Mull, which include the SS Hispania, SS Shuna, Thesis, Rondo, and Breda.
The maximum depth at Oban reaches 40 metres, diving a wreck bottom type in conditions that are more exposed than sheltered sites. Visibility and currents will vary with the exposed nature of the location, and divers should plan accordingly.
The wrecks around Oban support a rich array of marine life, with jewel anemones, plumose anemones, and dahlia anemones colonising the structure alongside nudibranchs and sea hares. Wrasse, ballan wrasse, pollock, scorpion fish, and dogfish are present, as are crabs and lobster. Dolphins are also encountered in these waters.
