Plate Reef is a reef dive site with a maximum depth of 13.7 metres (45 feet). The reef is characterised by sections of plate reef formation, with at least one portion — known as Graceland Reef — having broken and dropped 1 to 1.5 metres (4 to 5 feet) to create an interesting ledge with small caverns underneath, though these caverns are too small for penetration diving. That section sits in 5.5 to 6.7 metres (18 to 22 feet) of water and extends several hundred yards in length, making it a relaxed, low-profile dive with plenty to explore.
Marine life at Plate Reef includes lobster, grouper, tropical fish, and large fish. The Graceland Reef section is noted for some of the most varied tropical fish found at any local site, including Copper Sweepers, and Nurse sharks are commonly found sleeping beneath the ledges — bringing a dive light is recommended to look under them.
The site is rated as technical in difficulty. Its extent and varied terrain, including ledges and caverns, suit divers who want a thorough reef exploration, while the shallower sections of the reef are suitable as a relaxing second dive for casual divers.
