The Chimney

The Chimney is a dive site located north west of Great Dog Island in the British Virgin Islands, reached by approximately a 15-minute boat ride from Spanish Town. It takes its name from a rock climbing term describing where two cliff faces meet, reflected here in a crack between two boulders that rises from 8 m (25 ft) to the surface, forming the distinctive chimney feature.

The terrain consists of rocky formations including two canyons and a massive arch, the inside of which is decorated with yellow coral. Depths run from around 8 m (25 ft) at the shallowest point down to roughly 13–14 m (45 ft) at the bottom, over a rock bottom with moderate swell and generally light to low currents. The site lies close to another site called the Fish Bowl.

The Chimney is well regarded for eels, and guides regularly search the site for them during the dive. The protected nature of the site and its shallow shallowest point make it accessible to beginners and snorkelers, and it is listed as a beginner-level dive, though some descriptions also suggest intermediate to advanced divers will find it worthwhile.
