The Rock is an underwater pillar formation rising dramatically from the seafloor, topped with coral and featuring impressive overhangs along its sides. The structure has a perfect split running down its middle, creating a swim-through passage, and the tapered base and overhangs provide shelter for marine life. Divers can spend a full dive circling and exploring this coral head up to its shallowest point, or venture westward to reach a wall that drops into the depths of the Exuma Sound.
The site reaches a maximum depth of 14.6 metres, with a rocky bottom and coral-encrusted relief. The swim-through and narrow passages within the split are noted hazards to be aware of when navigating the structure. For those who venture to the wall to the west, the terrain transitions to a deep drop-off.
Marine life at The Rock includes black jacks sheltering beneath the overhangs, stingrays, moray eels, and nurse sharks, with Caribbean reef sharks zigzagging across the sand and crossing over the wall edge. The split passage and surrounding rocks see marine life zipping actively in and out.
The Rock is rated suitable for beginner divers, making it an accessible site for those early in their diving experience. Entry is by boat, and the site rewards multiple laps around the pillar as well as optional excursions to the adjacent wall.
