Turtle Tomb

Turtle Tomb, also called Turtle Cave, is a cave dive in the wall at Sipadan, east of a jetty and close to the Drop Off, and one of the island's major highlights. The cave system lies at about 20 m (17 to 23 m). It starts at an opening in the wall and runs 65 m of twists and turns that have confused and trapped many turtles, hence the name. Turtle skeletons can be seen in some of the caverns, and folklore says this was the final resting place of sea turtles.

From a few metres inside there is a fantastic view of the open blue ocean, and deeper in are stalagmites and stalactites. The dive needs cave diving experience, special equipment and a guide who knows the cave, and divers without cave experience may go no further than the light zone, where trevally and fusiliers can be seen at the entrance. Visibility is up to 30 m, and the minimum qualification is Advanced Open Water or Divemaster.
