Yolanda Reef is half of the Shark and Yolanda Reef dive in Ras Mohammed National Park, Egypt. Shark Reef is a vertical wall covered in coral, falling away hundreds of metres, and Yolanda Reef is a wide plateau of coral pinnacles. The remains of the Yolanda, a 74-metre ship sunk in 1980, lie in the middle, and her cargo of bathroom fittings lies about 5 metres down.
Purple soft coral and gorgonians cover the reef. Currents can be strong or extreme, so watch your depth. Level ratings run from all levels to advanced.
Turtles, tuna, big morays, Napoleon wrasse, red snapper, scorpionfish, crocodilefish, groupers and barracuda are the animals to look for, and grey reef or blacktip sharks sometimes show up. In summer schools of barracuda, batfish and snapper gather to mate, along with larger pelagics.
