Casa Cenote is an open cenote in Mexico's Riviera Maya, surrounded by mangroves and full of life. The water is shallow and easy, and the site is rated for beginners with no current.
The dive glides under a network of mangrove roots and through rocky passages. Fresh and salt water meet here, so you see a mix of freshwater and marine species, along with the halocline and shifting light effects as the layers blend. Turtles and snappers are seen in the mangrove-lined shallows.
Depth runs roughly 8 to 12 m, though introductory dives here stay to a maximum of 9 m and some listings give a depth nearer 6 m. Visibility is typically 15 to 25 m. The profile is easy enough for newer divers, and it is one of the cenote dives commonly used for first dives in the area.
