Chitales

Chitales is a shallow reef dive site located inside the bay at Cancun, Mexico, sitting alongside other inner-bay reefs such as Manchones and Santo Remedio. The reef reaches a maximum depth of 28–35 ft (around 9 m), making it one of the shallower sites in the area. Adjacent to the reef structure lies a seagrass bed and sandy bottom that extends out from the coral.

The terrain is characterised by healthy coral formations and medium-sized fish, with the seagrass beds providing additional habitat. Visibility is excellent, typically exceeding 25 m (80+ ft) in Cancun's clear Caribbean water. There is no current or at most a very mild one at this site, and water temperature ranges from 75–77°F (24–26°C) in winter to 80–82°F (27–28°C) in summer.

Marine life at Chitales includes green sea turtles commonly seen feeding on the seagrass, along with colorful tropical fish, healthy corals, eagle rays, green moray eels, nurse sharks, lobsters, crabs, and barracudas.
