Deep Turbo is a deep dive just east and north-east of Gili Trawangan, a short boat ride from the island. A succession of canyons full of untouched coral slowly leads back to shallower water, and large sea mounds are separated by a sandy bottom at about 30 metres. The tallest mounds rise to about 20 metres and have an interesting array of overhangs and outcrops.
Giant sea fans and a good assortment of other corals grow here. The sandy bottom is covered in thousands of garden eels, and barracuda, sharks and large rays are seen. Schools of fusiliers and blue-striped snappers, green turtles, nudibranchs, sweetlips and the occasional eagle ray are also seen, with schools of bumphead parrotfish now and then.
The current is often medium to strong, and the canyon-like shape channels it across the reef. This brings in bigger pelagic life, so the site is for advanced divers. Water temperature is 27 to 30°C.
