Hardy Reef is one of the larger reefs in the Whitsundays area of the Great Barrier Reef, situated near the outer reef. Hook Reef lies just to the south. The reef is a barrier reef, distinct from the fringe reefs closer to the coast, and sits on the continental shelf side of the outer reef system.
Access to Hardy Reef is by boat. One of the best-known dive sites on the reef is the area called Reefworld, served by a permanently anchored pontoon reached by high-speed boats on a roughly two-hour run. From the pontoon, divers and snorkellers enter the water directly, and there is also an underwater observation centre and a semi-submersible vessel that tours the reef.
