M/S Gävle is a Swedish marine research vessel that sank in 1975, lying in a canyon-like formation on the seabed. The wreck rests heavily listed but remains very much intact, with a great deal of rigging, ropes, and cables still in place. Instrumentation is still visible on the bridge, and the ship's name remains legible on the bow and stern. An equipment locker has been forced open, and a firefighter's mask hangs from the doorway — a distinctive feature noted by divers on multiple visits.
Visibility on the wreck is consistently good, reported at around 15 metres (roughly 50 feet), which makes navigating the network of ropes and cables manageable. Water temperature runs cold, with recorded readings around +4°C, so an adequate exposure suit is essential. Surface conditions in the area can deteriorate with wind and wave action, and the wreck sits near rocks that produce sizeable wave spray in rough weather.
The dive is conducted by boat. Seals have been spotted at the surface near the site, though divers have not reported encountering them underwater.
