The SS Shirala is a wreck off the West Sussex coast of England, lying at about 24 m, 7.5 nautical miles south-west of Littlehampton. She was built in Glasgow in 1901. On 2 July 1918, on a voyage from London to Bombay with 213 passengers and 5,000 tons of cargo, she was torpedoed on her port side by the German submarine UB-57 and sunk, 4 nautical miles north-east of the Owers. Eight people were lost.
Her cargo included general cargo, wine, marmalade, vehicle spares, binoculars, telescopes, ivory and 180 tons of ammunition detonating caps. Visibility is great, and the wreck is rated technical.
