About this site
The Afonso Cerqueira is a former Portuguese Navy corvette scuttled off the coast of Madeira as an artificial reef, resting in the waters near Funchal. Madeira's coastline drops away quickly into deep Atlantic water, and its artificial reefs were established partly to create accessible dive sites along an otherwise steep, rocky shore. Divers visiting this wreck typically arrive by boat from operators based around Funchal.
