About this site
The Akitsushima lies in the Coron area of Palawan, Philippines, one of the sunken Japanese World War Two vessels struck during the American air raid of September 1944. It was a seaplane tender, and the wreck now rests on a sand and metal bottom reaching a maximum depth of around 36 metres, rated an advanced dive. Divers exploring the hull have reported metal hazards to watch for while moving through the structure. Marine life reported on the wreck includes barracuda, batfish, grouper, lionfish, nudibranchs, and scorpionfish, giving the site a mix of wreck structure and reef-style sightings.
