About this site
The East Tangat Gunboat is a Japanese wartime wreck on the east side of Tangat Island near Coron, Palawan. It was a small gunboat, or submarine hunter, about 40 m (131 ft) long and 500 gross tons.
The ship lies on a sandy slope on the coral reef, listing to starboard, with the stern at 22 m (72 ft) and the top of the bow at 5 m (16 ft) pointing at 320 degrees. The wreck starts only about 3 m (10 ft) down, so even snorkellers can make out the bow.
It works well for beginners new to wreck diving and for photographers, and it makes a pleasant dive between deeper wreck sites. Around the hull are hard corals, sea fans, sponges, nudibranchs, starfish, black sea urchins, angelfish, butterflyfish, fusiliers, a yellow pufferfish and a hawkfish.
