About this site
Ancoras lies along the coastline of São Miguel, the largest island in the Azores archipelago, in the mid-Atlantic waters of Portugal. It sits over a sandy bottom in shallow water down to about 5 metres, rated a beginner dive with light current. Divers have reported moray eels and octopus around the site, and boat traffic in the area is worth keeping in mind. Dive sites along this volcanic coast are typically reached by boat from harbors on the island.
