About this site
Astrolabe Reef sits in the Bay of Plenty off the coast of New Zealand's North Island, a offshore reef system in open water beyond the coastline near Tauranga. It is generally considered an intermediate dive. The reef gained wider attention in 2011 when the container ship Rena grounded on it and later broke apart, though the reef itself is a natural formation predating that event.
